YVR

Vancouver International Airport

9

Miles away

20

Minutes away

YVR is about 9 miles south of BC Place in downtown Vancouver. The Canada Line SkyTrain connects YVR directly to downtown Vancouver in about 25 minutes, with stations within walking distance of BC Place. A rideshare from YVR runs $30–45 CAD. The Canada Line is clearly the best option.

Driving & parking

Driving Tips
Take BC-99 north to the Georgia St exit or the Cambie Bridge approach. Downtown Vancouver traffic can be significant on match evenings. The Canada Line from YVR or the Expo/Millennium Lines from the suburbs are all faster than driving for most fans.
Parking Cost Estimate:
$20–$40 CAD (downtown Vancouver garages)

BC Place has limited on-site parking. The surrounding downtown Vancouver garage network has options within a 5–10 minute walk. Rates are steep by MLS standards — $20–40 CAD. The SkyTrain is the overwhelmingly better option for most fans.

Tailgating
$20–$40 CAD (downtown Vancouver garages)

Traditional tailgating isn't really part of the BC Place experience — it's a downtown dome. The pre-match scene is in the surrounding Yaletown, Gastown, and downtown Vancouver bars. Vancouver Whitecaps' supporter groups (Southsiders, Rain City Brigade) gather at designated spots before matches — check supporter social channels.

Closest Transit Stop/Station:
Stadium-Chinatown (Expo/Millennium) or Vancouver City Centre (Canada Line)
Transit Lines Served:
SkyTrain Canada, Expo, and Millennium Lines

BC Place is served by two SkyTrain stations — Stadium-Chinatown on the Expo and Millennium Lines is a 5-minute walk, and Vancouver City Centre on the Canada Line (direct from YVR Airport) is also nearby. TransLink extends service on match nights. This is one of MLS's best transit-connected venues.

Walkability Score:
Very walkable
Best Neighborhood to Walk From:
Yaletown / Downtown Vancouver / Gastown

BC Place is in the heart of downtown Vancouver, walkable from Yaletown, Gastown, and the Coal Harbour waterfront. The False Creek seawall is a beautiful pre-match walk from the Granville Island or Yaletown areas.

Bike Parking:

Bike parking is available near BC Place. Vancouver's extensive separated bike lane network and the Seawall path make cycling from Yaletown, the West End, or False Creek a genuinely practical option.

rideshare

Rideshare drop-off is on Beatty St near the main entrance. Post-match, the SkyTrain is almost always faster than rideshare from downtown Vancouver — Stadium-Chinatown station handles post-match crowds efficiently.

accessibility

Accessible parking is available in designated spaces in nearby downtown garages. The accessible drop-off zone is on Beatty St near the main entrance. For accessibility accommodations, contact BC Place at (604) 661-7373.

At the Game

BC Place in downtown Vancouver is home to the Vancouver Whitecaps FC and doubles as one of Canada's premier multi-purpose venues, hosting everything from BC Lions CFL games to major concerts. For soccer, the stadium is configured to hold around 22,120 fans in the lower bowl, within a venue that can expand to 54,500. It's a retractable-roof stadium that opened in 1983 and was significantly renovated in 2011, giving it a modern feel despite its age.

The downtown Vancouver location is exceptional — BC Place sits at the edge of False Creek near Yaletown, one of the city's most vibrant neighborhoods with restaurants, bars, and waterfront walkways in every direction. The Stadium-Chinatown SkyTrain station is right outside, connecting the venue to the full Metro Vancouver transit network. Arriving by SkyTrain is by far the best approach. The surrounding area, including Yaletown and the Granville entertainment strip, offers excellent pregame options.

SEATING

Best Seats

Lower bowl midfield sections on either side of the halfway line.

BC Place is a covered dome stadium in downtown Vancouver that the Whitecaps share with the BC Lions. The dome provides a consistently comfortable indoor environment regardless of Vancouver’s famous wet weather. Lower bowl midfield sections are close to the touchline with clean views of the full pitch. The compact lower bowl creates strong sound for an indoor venue.

Good Value

Upper midfield sections, which offer a clean elevated view of the full pitch in a comfortable covered environment.

BC Place’s upper bowl midfield sections provide a solid elevated view of the entire pitch in a fully covered environment. The dome ensures consistent comfort regardless of weather, making the upper bowl a genuinely comfortable value option. Mid-infield sections keep sightlines clean. A good choice for any game at BC Place.

Avoid These

End goal sections and far upper corner sections — the Southsiders supporter section at the south end is standing and loud.

The Southsiders at the south end are Vancouver’s most passionate supporters — standing, vocal, and focused on creating atmosphere rather than watching the game. End goal sections offer steep angles to the far goal. Far upper corner sections are the most distant from the action in the dome. Midfield in any tier is the consistent choice for watching the game.

Sun

Not applicable — BC Place is a covered dome with consistent artificial lighting year-round.

BC Place is a fully covered stadium, which means sun and shade are simply not factors regardless of time of day or season. The artificial lighting is consistent for every game. Given Vancouver’s rainy climate and the MLS season extending into early spring and late fall, the dome’s weather protection is a significant practical advantage over outdoor venues.

Weather

BC Place is a fully covered dome — weather is completely irrelevant. A consistent indoor experience every game, year-round.

The dome eliminates Vancouver’s famously wet weather as a factor entirely. Whether it’s raining, cold, or sunny outside, the experience inside BC Place is consistently comfortable. For a city that gets significant rainfall across the soccer season, this is a meaningful advantage. Sound can be notably louder in the dome than at open-air venues, which contributes to a strong atmosphere when the Whitecaps are playing well.

Special Features

BC Place

BC Place in downtown Vancouver is one of MLS's most dramatic venues — a domed stadium with a retractable roof and a capacity of around 22,000 for soccer matches. The dome traps noise effectively, and when the Whitecaps are on a run, the acoustic energy inside is impressive. The stadium sits in the heart of downtown Vancouver steps from the waterfront.

Vancouver Whitecaps' supporter groups — the Southsiders and Curva Collective — fill the back of sections 249–253 and all of 254 at BC Place. Standing, drums, banners, and chanting throughout the match. The Canadian identity of the supporter culture — and the Voyageurs Cup rivalry with Toronto and Montréal — gives it particular energy. Non-Whitecaps apparel is not permitted in the supporter sections.
