Sky Harbor is one of the closest airports to any MLB ballpark in the country — just 4 miles from Chase Field. A rideshare from the terminal runs $12–20. The Valley Metro Light Rail also connects the airport to downtown Phoenix via the 44th St/Washington station, making it one of the few airports with a straightforward transit option to the ballpark.
Chase Field is surrounded by downtown Phoenix garages and surface lots, most within a 5–10 minute walk. The ballpark operates its own adjacent garage on 4th St. Rates run $10–30 depending on proximity and day of week. Downtown Phoenix is well-supplied with parking — this is one of the easier urban MLB parking situations.
Traditional tailgating isn't really part of the Chase Field scene — the limited lot space and downtown setting don't lend themselves to it. The pre-game action happens in the bars and restaurants along the downtown Phoenix grid, particularly around Footprint Center and along Washington St.
The Valley Metro Light Rail runs through downtown Phoenix with stops within an 8-minute walk of Chase Field. The line connects Tempe, Mesa, and the airport to downtown, making it a practical option from the east valley and Tempe. Valley Metro extends service on game days — check valleymetro.org for schedules.
Chase Field is embedded in downtown Phoenix, walkable from hotels along Central Ave, the convention center area, and Roosevelt Row. That said, Phoenix summers are brutal — even a 10-minute walk at first pitch in July or August is a sweaty affair. Plan accordingly, and note that Chase Field's retractable roof and A/C make the inside a welcome relief.
Bike parking is available near the Chase Field entrances. Downtown Phoenix's bike lane network is expanding, and the flat terrain makes cycling from nearby neighborhoods like Roosevelt Row or the downtown core straightforward.
Accessible parking is available in the Chase Field garage and adjacent lots — ADA spaces can be reserved in advance. The accessible drop-off zone is on 4th St near the home plate entrance. For accessibility services, contact the D-backs at (602) 462-6500 or visit dbacks.com/accessibility.
Chase Field sits in the heart of downtown Phoenix and has been home to the Arizona Diamondbacks since 1998. It was a genuine engineering feat when it opened — the first MLB ballpark to combine a retractable roof with a natural grass playing surface, a necessity given Phoenix summers that regularly push past 110°F. The roof makes it one of the most weather-proof venues in baseball, with the interior kept at a comfortable temperature regardless of what's happening outside.
The stadium holds about 48,500 fans and features a pool and hot tub beyond the right-center field fence — a uniquely Arizona touch that can be rented for groups. Downtown Phoenix has grown considerably around it, with Roosevelt Row's art scene, sports bars, and restaurants all within easy walking distance. Light rail stops directly outside, making it one of the easiest MLB parks to reach without a car.
Non-flavored/non-carbonated water in sealed, plastic bottles, empty plastic water bottles, sealed single service juice boxes are permitted.
Small food items brought in an approved clear bag are allowed. No metal or glass containers will be permitted.
To ensure fan safety and an expedited ballpark entry, a clear bag policy is now in effect forChase Field. Each fan may carry one clear plastic or vinyl bag no larger than 12” x 6” x 12” or a clear plastic gallon freezer bag. Small clutch purses are also permitted that are no larger than 4.5” x 6.5”. All bags are subject to search. For a complete list of approved bags, visit dbacks.com/clearbag.
Chase Field’s lower bowl is intimate and well-designed, putting you close to the action in a fully air-conditioned environment. Sections 110–118 directly behind the plate offer the best combination of sightlines and comfort. The roof being closed for most summer games means every seat here is genuinely comfortable regardless of what Phoenix is doing outside.
Chase Field’s upper deck is closer to the action than it looks — the ballpark’s design keeps sightlines clean even from the top level. Mid-infield sections give you a full view of the field at a fraction of the Field Box price. A solid choice for a casual game, especially given the comfort of the air-conditioned environment.
The main seats to avoid are the far upper deck corners, where the angle toward the infield gets steep. Unlike older parks, there are no pole obstructions at Chase Field — the main issue is simply distance and angle in the extremes. The outfield bleachers are lively and affordable but a long way from infield action.
When the roof is closed (May through September), sun and shade are simply not a factor — Chase Field operates as a fully air-conditioned indoor ballpark. On the rare occasions the roof is open, the right field/first base side catches afternoon sun while the third base side shades earlier. Spring and fall open-roof games offer some of the most pleasant weather conditions in baseball.
From late spring through early fall, the roof is closed and air conditioning is on — expect a comfortable 72°F regardless of what’s happening outside. Spring and October games with the roof open offer beautiful Arizona evenings. The one variable: if you’re sensitive to heat, verify roof status before heading out on shoulder-season dates when the call can go either way.

A swimming pool beyond right-center field can be rented for groups to watch the game while in the water. One of the most distinctive features at any MLB ballpark.
An interactive pitching zone where fans can test their arm against MLB-level targets and get their speed clocked. Worth a stop, especially with kids in tow.
An outdoor patio on the upper concourse with views of the Phoenix skyline and the playing field. One of the best spots for a drink on a warm desert evening.
A shaded right field seating area powered by rooftop solar panels — a nod to Phoenix's sunshine. Great option on hot days when shade is at a premium.
