Minutes away

MSP is about 14 miles south of Allianz Field in Saint Paul. A rideshare from the airport runs $25–40. The Metro Green Line light rail connects MSP via downtown Minneapolis and Saint Paul, with a stop near the stadium. Allow about 45–55 minutes total via transit from the airport.

Driving & parking

Driving Tips
Take I-94 west to the Snelling Ave exit and head north. Snelling Ave can get congested on match evenings — arriving 60+ minutes early helps with both parking and the pre-match atmosphere. The Green Line from downtown Minneapolis or Saint Paul is often the fastest option.
Parking Cost Estimate:
$15–$25 (Midway area lots)

Allianz Field has limited on-site parking. The surrounding Midway area has surface lots and garages within a 10-minute walk, but they fill fast on sellout match days. Pre-booking via SpotHero is recommended. The Green Line is a significantly better option than fighting for parking in the Midway area.

Tailgating
$15–$25 (Midway area lots)

Minnesota United's supporter groups (Dark Clouds, True North Elite) create one of the best pre-match atmospheres in MLS. The lots around Allianz Field and the nearby bars on University Ave are active 90+ minutes before kickoff. Check supporter social channels for organized pre-match events.

Best Neighborhood to Walk From:
Midway / St. Anthony Park

Allianz Field is in Saint Paul's Midway neighborhood, a genuine urban community with bars and restaurants along University Ave. The Green Line corridor has developed considerably around the stadium since it opened in 2019. If you're in the Midway or Frogtown areas, walking to the match is easy.

Bike Parking:

Bike parking is available near Allianz Field. Minneapolis-Saint Paul's extensive trail network, including the Greenway and the Midway trails, makes cycling from several neighborhoods a practical option.

rideshare

Rideshare drop-off is near the main entrance on Snelling Ave. Post-match, the Midway area can be congested — the Green Line is the cleanest exit option. Walking a few blocks toward University Ave before requesting a rideshare helps reduce surge pricing.

accessibility

Accessible parking is available in designated ADA spaces in nearby lots. The accessible drop-off zone is near the main entrance on Snelling Ave. For accessibility accommodations, contact Minnesota United FC at mnufc.com.

At the Game

Allianz Field opened in 2019 in St. Paul's Midway neighborhood and was purpose-built for Minnesota United FC with atmosphere in mind. It holds just under 19,500 fans in a tight, covered bowl with a large standing supporter section — the Wonderwall — behind the north goal that drives what has become one of the better atmospheres in MLS. The dark interior and focused design make it feel intentionally intimate.

The Midway neighborhood sits between Minneapolis and St. Paul, historically a working-class area that's seen significant development since the stadium opened. The Green Line Light Rail stops at Snelling Avenue, a short walk from the gates, making it easy to reach from both downtowns. A number of bars and restaurants have emerged nearby since the stadium's opening, and the overall experience has improved steadily as the neighborhood develops around it.

SEATING

Best Seats

Lower bowl midfield sections on either side of the halfway line.

Allianz Field is a compact, well-designed soccer-specific stadium that opened in 2019 in St. Paul. The lower bowl is intimate and steep, keeping midfield sections close to the touchline. The dark exterior and strong visual design make it one of the more distinctive venues in MLS, and the atmosphere is consistently one of the best in the league.

Good Value

Upper midfield sections, which offer a clean elevated view of the full pitch.

Allianz Field’s upper bowl midfield sections deliver a solid elevated view of the entire pitch. The compact design keeps the upper sections feeling engaged with the game. A good value choice for most games, with the caveat that Minnesota United games tend to sell well and lower bowl tickets can be competitive for big matches.

Avoid These

End goal sections — the Wonderwall supporter section is one of MLS’s great atmospheric experiences but is standing and focused on creating noise rather than watching.

The Wonderwall — Minnesota United’s supporter section at the south end — is consistently ranked among the best supporter environments in MLS: loud, visual, and passionate. But it’s standing and the view of the full pitch is limited. Corner sections are also restricted sightlines. Midfield in the lower or upper bowl is the right choice for watching the game, with the Wonderwall’s noise carrying throughout the whole stadium.

Sun

The west side of the stadium faces east and shades earlier — the east side gets more direct afternoon sun.

Allianz Field runs roughly north-south with the main stand on the west side facing east. The west side benefits from shade earlier in the afternoon. The east side gets more direct afternoon sun for late-afternoon kickoffs. Minnesota summers are pleasant and not particularly intense for sun exposure, but the shaded west side is still the more comfortable choice for afternoon games.

Weather

Minnesota spring and fall mean cold games — Allianz Field is open-air in St. Paul, and early and late season games can be genuinely cold.

Allianz Field has no roof, and Minnesota’s climate is one of the most weather-challenging in MLS. Season openers and closers in March, April, September, and October can be cold — bring real layers. May through August games are typically comfortable to warm. The stadium’s compact design provides some wind shelter, but cold weather at Allianz Field requires preparation. Summer games here are among the best in MLS for weather and atmosphere combined.

Special Features

Allianz Field's Glowing Shell

Allianz Field opened in 2019 in the Midway neighborhood of Saint Paul and is one of the most visually distinctive soccer venues in North America. The translucent exterior skin glows at night in club colors, and the view of the illuminated stadium from outside before a match is genuinely beautiful. The design has won architectural awards for its striking appearance.
